I was amazed at the fact that the high calorie foods can affect the brain just as much as drug addictions. The studies they conducted using rats were interesting and showed that although they were being shocked when they tried to reach for the food, they still kept their eyes focused on it and didn’t mind the pain.

After conducting a student survey as our class assignment many students had the reoccurring addiction of always being on the Internet. It was interesting to see how many problems the Internet can cause, especially problems having to do with relationships and sex. It is important to realize that the internet is becoming a substitute for having an active life and through this article many college student can learn from it and try not to let this addiction take over their social life.

In this article Diane Stresing, talks about suffering from oniomania, an impulse to buy things, or more commonly known to us as “shopaholics.” She talks about how many people, who suffer from this disease, are likely to also be suffering from depression, or self-esteem. Just like any other addiction this addiction is emotionally tied, given shoppers a sense of guilt after their shopping sprees and treatment could be very emotional for them.

Habits such as overeating can quickly become as addictive as cocaine due to over stimulating our brains with enjoyment, causing tolerance to build up and requiring more eating (like usage) in order to gain the same satisfaction. Of course if you feel pleasure in what you are doing, you will continue to do it more until you become addicted.
